Type: Tropical tree
Sun / water: Full sun / water as needed
When I plant it: Late winter, early spring, early summer. Any later and they will struggle to become established.
What I’ve seen
Very sensitive to the cold and not native to Florida. Check the variety, as some are hardier than others, like the Dwarf Cavendish.
How I use it
These died back after the cold winter. Trim back all the dead after the new growth starts; this keeps you from accidentally cutting off good stems. Banana tree stems hold a lot of water, and the base is not actually a trunk but many layers. I trim back the top layer as it gets old and turns yellow.
This profile shares what I have experienced growing this plant in my Central Florida garden. I am not a certified horticulturist, so results in your garden may differ.
