Turmeric

Ginger’s cousin, harvested before the cold and dried into spice.

Type: Annual tuberous herb

Sun / water: Filtered light, like a jungle canopy / water daily until established

When I plant it: Late winter. Harvest in late fall before the cold arrives.

What I’ve seen

Full leaves. It needs to be harvested before cold weather; this is a jungle plant.

How I use it

Moderate. Turmeric has traditionally been used as a medicinal. Dried and ground into spice, it is used in Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine.
