Cucumber

A trailing vine: an old wire shelf makes a fine trellis.

Type: Vegetable (vine)

Sun / water: Full sun / water daily or as needed

When I plant it: Late winter, early fall.

What I’ve seen

It has yellow flowers and tolerates some heat, but excessive heat turns the leaves brown. This is a trailing plant, so if your bed doesn’t have a large footprint, I recommend a trellis. I used an old wire shelf.

How I use it

Mild. Delicious fresh off the vine. Add cucumber to vinegar and oil as a side dish, or mix it with Greek yogurt and dill to make tzatziki, a Mediterranean condiment.

This profile shares what I have experienced growing this plant in my Central Florida garden. I am not a certified horticulturist, so results in your garden may differ.
