Pigeon Pea

New to my garden: started in late summer and quick to outgrow its pot.

Type: Legume

Sun / water: Full sun / every other day until established, then as needed

When I plant it: I started these in late summer in a starter pot, though they could be direct sown. They outgrew their 3-inch pot within three weeks.

What I’ve seen

I am new to the legume family, so I will update this section as I learn more.

How I use it

Mild. Legumes are best dried and stored in an airtight container for long-term storage, or used fresh and tender soon after harvest. They can be used in soups and stews.

This profile shares what I have experienced growing this plant in my Central Florida garden. I am not a certified horticulturist, so results in your garden may differ.
