Red Cayenne Pepper

Long, thin and hot: good in rubs, broths and Mexican-style dishes.

Type: Hot pepper (long, thin)

Sun / water: Full sun / water as needed

When I plant it: Late winter, early to mid spring. I start them in pots and transfer them to beds. They love summer heat but can show heat stress with yellowing leaves.

What I’ve seen

White blooms before fruiting into a new pepper. Red cayenne is green before it ripens and turns red. Peppers range in spiciness from Thai hot to American hot, and long thin red cayenne are hot.

How I use it

Hot. Use in rubs, broths and Mexican-style dishes. Use sparingly unless you have a high spice tolerance.
